Bronze Casting

So I finally got my bronze piece back. I have so much work to do on it before it's finished. Here are some pics of the whole process. Kinda funny! I know I am so dang hot in flannel and face masks! I do what I can. I am really excited about it! I really hope it turns out okay. The process was hard! I had to make a mold out of wax, which is not as easy as it may appear. Then it had to be attached to a base and dipped in slurry and covered in sand. I had to dip it probably 8 times. Crazy long because you had to wait 6 hours between each dip. Anyway, that's my sweet bronze casting story.

Kandinsky

Okay...so we all know his work, but I just keep coming back to it. His way with color and space and shape blows my mind. His compositions and craftsmanship are impeccable. Kandinsky is very good at making your eye move around the piece, his works are not focused on one thing usually. Love!!! I hope you find your own opinions about him and his work!

Julie Mehretu

Another artist I absolutely adore. She really knows how to work with color and line. She is such an inspiration and her process is so fantastic! I love the mylar and layered paper techniques. Her designs are so crisp and precise, but they carry a certain fluidity. I love it!!!

Success

I am reading a fantastic book right now, entitled Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell. Throughout the book he describes many instances of people who have obtained success. Whether it be a hockey team, major business men, or students, these people have all been successful at what they do, but for reasons that do not meet the common eye. This book is enlightening. It is truly a succesful read (ha! pun was intended). If you want to be success in all aspects of your life, this is the book for you!

Lawn Mower

Lawn mowers, probably one of the coolest pieces of equipment around. I was never fortunate enough to live in a place that allowed me to participate in such an exciting activity, I only lived in dirt forsaken lots...we played with rocks as kids. JK, but seriously. That being said, as an observer of this activity I have decided that there is one thing I would make sure I didn't do.
When I was driving through town one day I stopped at a light where a nearby kid was mowing the lawn. As I continued to watch this event, I noticed that this boy was wearing flip flops. Hmmm....mowing the lawn in flip flops. You might as well put your hand in the disposal and turn it on. Really?!?!?! I mean come on! I love wearing flip flops and utilizing a tool that could CHOP MY TOES OFF!!! Way to go kid. Hope you got that lawn done...toes and all.

Tip for the Day:

Flip Flops and Lawn Mowers are not friends.

Facetious

After much contemplation and pondering I decided to indulge in the virtual world of blogging...yeah right! Anyway the point is that I finally have a blog. Thought I'd join the "IN" crowd. And believe me, it's really all it's cracked up to be. Ha! I hope you didn't catch the facetiousness in that last remark. Regardless...I'm here to stay and super-uber excited!
